Cyber Security/ Hacking  ROAD-MAP for Beginners

By evidence, the world is rapidly and constantly changing. We turn not to be independent of digital systems. As others build, others learn how to break down.  World statistics shows that about 2,000 cyberattacks occur daily.

You must have seen this field of study to be interesting and want to get into it. Well then!  Read this blog post to the end.

Beginning the Journey

  1. Computer Fundamentals

Learn about Computer fundamentals such as:

  • What is the computer? Why do we need it? How was it Invented? How does it work?
  • How data input gets into the computer
  • How data is processed and the various architecture used
  • How information is Stored in the compute r
  • How data output is obtained from it
  • Operating Systems

Now from step one above , you’d have found out that, the computer needs software to function properly.  So on operating systems, you should learn about :

What really is an operating system,  and what do they do?.  Computer organization and Computer Architecture , operating system Structures ,  operating  processes, Cpu Scheduling .

You would also learn about various Types of operating systems , their advantages and disadvantages.

Some existing operating systems are Windows , Linux OS Distributions , Android OS , iOS etc.

When you are done with that , don’t forget to find out which operating systems are best for Hackers and Security Issues.

  • Google

Every security Expert needs this kill, to summarize this skill is a ‘do without ‘in

security. You would go on to learn how to do basic google searches and research. Best ways to structure you keywords when searching on something.

  • Learn What is Cybersecurity/Hacking

Now, you can start getting your hands dirty!  At this stage, you should learn what Cybersecurity and Hacking is. Why we need Cyber security and what skills are needed to join Cyber security.

Move Towards Basic Knowledge Of Security and Hacking

  1. Computer Programming Basics

It is vital that you know how to program.  Start with one or two programming languages. It maybe Python or Javascript or any other.

But is programming really necessary for Hacking?

Well no. But if you want to become a good Hacker without knowing programming and understanding the basics, then you have very rare chances.

  1. Cybersecurity and Hacking Terms

Learn Some Cyber security terms such as:

  • Exploit, threat, malware, Virus , Trojan , Adware, Phishing , Encryption , Vulnerability , Penetration testing etc.
  1. Windows OS

You want to Learn about windows installation.  It will also be good to know about security features in windows and how to navigate through windows features.

  1. Linux OS

Just like windows, learn how to install linux as well as basic Administrative Knowledge on Linux. Also, get your hands into some linux terminal commands.

  1. Computer Network

As a security person, you’ll need some basic understanding of computing networks and it’s various structure and layers, how they interact.   Take note of some terms such as MAC, IP, VPN, VLAN, Firewall, ports, SSL and their functions.

  1. Virtualization

Search and select a virtualization Software. Some of them are VMware, Virtual box. Download and install various operating systems on it.

In Future, you could make use of these systems running virtual, to test and simulate an attack.

  1. Courses and Certifications

After the steps above, you’d be ready to take on courses specializing in a particular Security Field you want.  Would be Worthwhile to use your google skills to search for courses you need.

8.   Projects

While doing your courses, it would be good to find projects that are security oriented. These can be found on Github. Take these projects and challenge yourself.

With Great power comes great Responsibility . So use the Knowledge you obtained well. Happy Learning!
